Rice Bran Wax

Rice bran wax is a hard, high-melting natural wax obtained during the dewaxing of crude rice bran oil. It is plant-derived, vegan, and structurally suited to formulators looking for clean, traceable natural waxes. It works as a substitute or partial replacement for carnauba and candelilla in cosmetic sticks, lip products, candle blends, food coatings, polishes, and pharmaceutical tablet coatings.

We produce around 4,000 MT of crude rice bran wax a year at our Rania facility, which makes us one of the larger single-site producers in India.

Crude Rice Bran Wax

The dewaxed, filtered output from our rice bran oil line. Standard feedstock grade for wax refiners and oleochemical processors operating their own downstream de-oiling and decolouring steps.

Refined Rice Bran Wax

A lower-oil, lighter-colour grade with a tighter specification window, supplied for buyers who need wax ready for direct use in cosmetic, candle, food coating, and polish applications.

Applications

Cosmetics and personal care

A plant-derived alternative or partial substitute for carnauba and candelilla in lipstick, lip balm, mascara, sticks, stick foundations, and W/O emulsions. Vegan.

Candles

Blended with paraffin, soy, or coconut wax to raise melting point and improve burn quality, and at higher concentrations in premium plant-based candle ranges.

Food coatings and confectionery

Rice bran wax carries the international food-additive number INS 908 (E 908) and is used as a glazing and surface-coating agent, in chewing gum base, and as a release agent. Permitted uses vary by country, so buyers should confirm the rules in their own market. Our wax is produced in an ISO 22000:2018 certified facility.

Industrial polishes

Shoe and leather polish, automotive and metal polishes, wood and floor care.

Pharmaceutical tablet coatings

What is rice bran wax?
Rice bran wax is a hard, high-melting vegetable wax recovered during the dewaxing of crude rice bran oil. It is plant-derived and made up mainly of esters of long-chain fatty acids and fatty alcohols, which give it a melting point high enough to stand in for carnauba and candelilla in many formulations. Its identifiers are CAS 8016-60-2, EINECS 232-409-7, INS 908, and HS 1521.10.
How does rice bran wax compare to carnauba and candelilla wax?
All three are hard plant waxes used to add structure, raise melting point, and harden sticks. Carnauba is the hardest and highest-melting and comes only from Brazil. Candelilla comes mainly from Mexico. Rice bran wax sits close to carnauba on melting point and hardness, is available from India and other rice-growing regions, and is often chosen as a full or partial replacement to lower cost, diversify sourcing, or meet vegan formulation needs. Many formulators blend it with carnauba or candelilla rather than replacing them outright.
Is rice bran wax vegan and natural?
Yes. It is entirely plant-derived from rice bran with no animal inputs, so it suits vegan and naturally derived formulations. Under EU REACH it is treated as a natural substance and is exempt from registration under Annex V.
What is the difference between crude and refined rice bran wax?
Crude rice bran wax is the dewaxed, filtered output straight from the rice bran oil line. It carries residual oil and a darker color, and is the standard feedstock grade for wax refiners and oleochemical processors who run their own de-oiling and decoloring steps. Refined rice bran wax has had most of that oil removed, giving a lighter color and a tighter specification window so it can go directly into cosmetic, candle, food coating, and polish formulations. We produce crude wax at our Rania facility and supply a refined grade for buyers who need wax ready for direct use.
What is the melting point and typical specification of rice bran wax?
Rice bran wax typically melts in the region of 79 to 85 degrees Celsius, with the exact figure depending on grade and refining. Buyers usually evaluate it on melting point, acid value, saponification value, oil content, and color. Full certified values for each grade are on the technical datasheet, which we send to qualified buyers on request.

We optimize for full container loads, with a standard minimum of 20 MT for crude or refined wax. Smaller less-than-container quantities are available for pilot testing and first orders. Samples of up to 1 kg are free to qualified buyers, and pilot batches of 5 to 25 kg are supplied on a cost-recovery basis that is deductible from your first order.
Is rice bran wax REACH compliant for sale into the EU?
Rice bran wax is a natural substance and is exempt from REACH registration under Annex V. We provide a REACH Annex V statement, along with allergen, non-GMO, and vegan declarations, on request at no extra charge.
Where does Vaibhav Edibles ship from, and what are the lead times?
We ship from Nhava Sheva (JNPT) and Mundra on the west coast for Europe, the Americas, Africa, and the Middle East, and from Kolkata on request for Asia-Pacific destinations. After a contract is confirmed, production and delivery to port takes around three to four weeks, and sample logistics take five to seven working days.
